Glass Thicknesses
1/4″: | This size works best for tabletops/table covers and some glass that fits inside of a frame or inset. |
---|---|
3/8″: | This glass thickness also works well for a more sturdy tabletop/table cover. It is also suitable for use with ‘open top’ tables (when the glass sits on a base of some sort – must be tempered safety glass). |
1/2″: | A thicker glass; thick enough to sit on a base on its own. More common and cheaper than the thickest option (3/4″ listed below). |
3/4″: | The thickest glass available for this kind of use; suitable for heavy-duty applications and when the glass sits on a base. |
Patterned Tabletop
Do you have an ornate dining table? Or maybe a live-edge wood coffee table? South Shore Glass can create a custom protective piece for you too.
We use pattern paper to copy the exact curvature of your surfaces to ensure each piece of glass fits correctly.
Types of Corners/Edges
- Seamed Edge: a safety edge where any sharp burrs are removed
- Polished Edge: a straight cut edge that is polished with a slight 45˚ angle on the top and bottom showing the beauty of the glass with a matte finish
- Rounded Corners: a slight curve with less of a harsh point
- Touched Corners: 90˚ corners that merely touch a polish wheel to that the ‘point’ off
